  • Legendary SR-71 Blackbird

    Beale was the home to the fastest and highest flying air-breathing manned aircraft in history, the SR-71 Blackbird. The first SR-71 to enter service was delivered to Beale Air Force Base on Jan. 7, 1966. During it’s time in service it provided reconnaissance for the U.S. Air Force and played a key role in gathering intelligence during the Cold War.

Ejecting from an ejection seat is not something a pilot wants to do, but it is something they have to do in case of an emergency where everything else in an aircraft fails. Everyone plays a part in keeping these aircraft in the air, but it all starts on the ground with the 9th Maintenance Squadron aerospace ground equipment (AGE) flight.
