Beale's Best compete in fitness challenge Published Dec. 11, 2013 By Senior Airman Allen Pollard 9th Reconnaissance Wing Public Affairs BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 9th Force Support Squadron hosted a base wide strength and endurance fitness competition at Harris Fitness Center Dec. 9 to 13. The competition consists of one repetition max bench press, one repitition max squat and a 5k run. The Beale's Best Fitness Competition is held once a quarter. During the week-long competition members of Team Beale can ask to be validated by a Harris Fitness Center staff member for the bench press and squat categories. The 5K run was a group event. The top three competitors with validated weights and times will retain thier titles until the next quarter's competition begins. In order for a participant to remain on the board they must compete each quarter even if their previous score wasn't surpassed. "Most of the participants are the serious weightlifters who put in a lot of work," said Staff Sgt. Carlos Vazquez 9th FSS Harris Fitness Center NCO in charge. "When they see their name on the board, they love it. It's a pride thing." Last quarter's winners were: - Male bench press: Staff Sgt. Roderic Thomas, 9th FSS, benched 405 lbs. - Male Squats: Staff Sgt. Michael Spina, 9th Security Forces Squadron, squatted 485 lbs. - Female bench press: Master Sgt. Vonetta Roseman, 48th Intelligence Squadron, benched 125 lbs. - Female squats: Master Sgt. Vonetta Roseman, 48th IS, squatted 245 lbs.
