Air Force Chief of Safety attends SOO course Published March 23, 2015 By Senior Airman Bobby Cummings 9th Reconnaissance Wing Public Affairs BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Maj. Gen. Kurt Neubauer, the Air Force Chief of Safety, recently attended the Senior Officer Orientation course March 16-17, at the Air Force Combat Ammunition Center located on Beale Air Force Base. The SOO course is detailed training designed to offer senior leaders the opportunity to witness the munitions building process. Annually, there are eight two-day 15-person courses. AFCOMAC is the only DOD combat munitions course and was developed to provide the Air Force munitions community with advanced training in mass combat ammunition planning and production techniques. "I highly encourage other senior leaders to attend the SOO course to further understand the intricate work being completed at AFCOMAC," Neubauer said. "By nature of the work completed here and the potential catastrophic consequences of a miscalculation, it is incumbent upon everyone to remain adamant about upholding safety standards." According to Staff Sgt. Christopher Leroux, 9th Munitions Squadron combat munitions advisor, AFCOMAC has had an outstanding safety record, and has had zero explosive safety incidents. "Safety first," Leroux said. "We employ the best practices we can to ensure the health and safety of all students of the courses." Additionally, there are eight 70-person Combat Ammunition Planning and Production courses, which occur at AFCOMAC. CAPP is a three-week course and is an upgrade training requirement for all 2W0 munitions system personnel. According to Neubauer, the safety habit-patterns engrained at AFCOMAC extend across the Air Force because the Airmen here handle such a large volume of munitions. "While attending the SOO course, I've had the opportunity to witness the scope of the operation," Neubauer said. "I'm very impressed with how the Airmen have displayed professionalism and focus while safely accomplishing the mission."
