BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. - U.S. Air Force Col. Keagan McLeese, 9th Reconnaissance Wing commander, coins Cory “ULTRALORD” Bartholomew, 1st Reconnaissance Squadron (RS) assigned flight safety officer, after also coining Lt. Col. “JETHRO”, 1st RS instructor pilot and U-2 chief pilot, after they landed a 9th Reconnaissance Wing TU-2S Dragon Lady at Beale Air Force Base (AFB), California, July 31st, 2025. “ULTRALORD” flew with Lt. Col. “JETHRO”, 1st RS instructor pilot and U-2 chief pilot on the 70th anniversary of the U-2’s first flight and broke the endurance records for the U-2, flying longer than 14 hours and traveled over 6,000 nautical miles. This flight tested the capabilities of the U-2 and its pilots to its limit and showcased Beale AFB’s capacity as a power projection platform to rapidly respond to adversary actions anywhere in the world. National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Team Beale is using this opportunity to highlight the importance of seeking help and to share vital information and resources with our service members and families.  

Many individuals think about or attempt suicide. In 2023, Over 49,000 people died by suicide – one death every 11 minutes. 12.8 million seriously thought about suicide, 3.7 million planned for suicide, and 1.5 million attempted suicides, per the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  

Every member of the Beale community plays a vital role in suicide prevention. By recognizing warning signs, mitigating risks, and seeking help, we can all make a difference. Even a simple check-in can save a life. If you or someone you know needs help, please call or text 988 or go to 988lifeline.org.
