"... the Air Force truly is a family..." Published Oct. 29, 2015 By Robert Scott 9th Reconnaissance Wing Public Affairs BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- "One of the most challenging times of my career was losing a fellow Air Force member during a deployment. It's something that you can never truly prepare for as a leader. It took a lot of thought, soul searching and mental preparation to find a balance for people to grieve as well as to continue the mission. Giving up was not an option. Our mission was vital. But the last thing I wanted to do was put someone out there who was not in the right frame of mind to maintain an aircraft. My number one concern was for everyone's well-being. We needed to come together. We did. That was one of those moments when I realized the Air Force truly is a family." Capt.
