“…The opportunity to do something with a higher impact…” Published July 10, 2017 By Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Schultze 9th Reconnaissance Wing Public Affairs BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- “When I was younger I wanted to join the Air Force and be a pilot, once I went to the recruiter and failed a color vision test I realized that wasn’t going to happen and I put the military on the back burner. As time went on I got married and we had a child, I got older and wizened up a bit. I realized that the Air Force has a lot more to offer than just being a pilot. The job stability, money for school, and the opportunity to do something with a higher impact. I have an Officer Training School package in right now, so hopefully I hear some good news from that in September. I would really like to stay in contracting if I am able to become an officer. Right now I do operational contracting, which is a lot of base level projects, but I would like to get into systems contracting, which involves acquiring weapon systems and working on projects at a higher level.” Staff Sgt. Kenley Lott, 9th Contracting Squadron contracting officer Hometown: Texarkana, Texas
