Beale Airmen volunteer to construct a local home Published Aug. 20, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Bobby Cummings 9th Reconnaissance Wing Public Affairs BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Team Beale has recently been constructing a home with Habitat for Humanity in Marysville, Calif. More than 90 Airmen have volunteered their time to aid with the construction. Recent volunteers were Lt. Col. Jason Arnold, 548th Operations Support Squadron commander, Lt. Col. David Dengler, 13th Intelligence Squadron commander, and other Beale Airmen. On Aug. 17 the group helped put the roofing on the home. "The local community has really embraced the Beale community in its midst," Arnold said. In 2012 Beale Airmen participated in more than 200 community outreach events. As a non-profit, ecumenical Christian ministry that builds for those in need regardless of race or religion, Habitat for Humanity welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds. "Our jobs require us to come and go often, but while we're here it should be all of our missions to integrate as much as possible with our local community and connect with the people we serve," said Capt. John, 548th Operational Support Squadron. This particular home is being built for Linda Siller and her daughter. "This is all overwhelming," Siller said. "From the first time Airmen came to help they have been fantastic. Thank you to all of those who have helped and thank you for being a part of our home." The more than 2,000 sq. foot two story home is slated to be completed within a few months with the continued help from Beale Airmen. "We ask a lot of our Airmen, and seeing these men and women giving up their time to come out and help construct a home for a family is beyond admirable," Arnold said. "Anything we can do to give back and make the lives of the local citizens better is crucial to continuing a strong relationship."
