Tax center opens Feb 3 for 2013 returns Published Jan. 9, 2014 By Senior Airman Allen Pollard 9th Reconnaissance Wing Public Affairs BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The Tax Center will open Feb. 3, 2014, to help Team Beale members prepare 2013 tax returns, and officials urge customers to start gathering tax documents now. Military OneSource website has numerous tax filing resources and information on what documents are necessary to file, such as W2 forms, real estate schedules and education forms. "In the Tax Center we will have four preparers at a time capable of doing approximately one appointment or return per hour depending on the difficulty of the return," said Senior Airman Derek Gwin, 9th Reconnaissance Wing civil law paralegal. "To help expedite the process we will stagger the appointments according to rank." - E-1 through E-4 can come in from Feb. 3 to Feb. 14. - E-1 through E-6 can come from Feb. 17 through Feb. 28. - All ranks, dependents and retirees can come in beginning Mar. 3. There will be preparers throughout many squadrons to assist those who wish to file earlier or who are unable to make an appointment. The Tax Center will close April 14 to ensure all returns are processed before the April 15 deadline. However, service members who are deployed receive certain tax deadline exceptions. "Members deployed in a qualified hazardous duty area or combat zone receive a 180 day extension plus the total number of days missed in the tax season," Gwin said. "They don't have to apply for this; it's an automatic extension." For more information, contact the Legal Office at 530-634-2928.
