The Beale Officers' Spouses' Club awarded $8,000 in scholarship funds between four deserving students at the Recce Point Club on Beale Air Force Base, Calif., May 27.

The Beale Officers' Spouses' Club is a private organization dedicated to the betterment of Beale and the surrounding community.

"The purpose of the Beale Officers' Spouses' Club is to promote social and charitable endeavors through non-profit activities," said Emily Swinarski, Beale Officers' Spouses' Club publicity chairperson. "The Beale Officers' Spouses' Club distributes scholarships and donations to qualified students and organizations."

The scholarship selection board chose the recipients based on academic achievements, extracurricular activities, community involvement, letters of recommendation and an essay.

"It was a highly competitive selection process," Swinarski said. "The selection board was comprised of a panel of high-ranking military members and well-respected community leaders."

This year's recipients are:

Donovan Young, Wheatland Union High School
Karalynn Sipowicz, Wheatland Union High School
Kristen Kent, Yuba City High School
Emily Haines, Edmond North High School

"I am honored to be selected as one of the Beale Officers' Spouses' Club scholarship recipients," said Karalynn Sipowicz, who will attend Texas Tech University in the fall as a pre-med student. "This scholarship will go a long way helping to pay for college and dorm expenses. I never realized that living on campus costs as much as my college classes. My parents want me to live on campus at least the first year as a way to get to know more people and Texas Tech requires freshman to live in the dorm. So, I know my freshman year will be an expensive one."

All four recipients this year are dependents of service members currently serving at Beale.

The scholarship funds were raised by the Beale Officers' Spouses' Club throughout the year through fundraising efforts and the Beale Thrift Shop.

"These scholarships have a direct impact on the lives of these students, and Beale Officers' Spouses' Club is honored to be a part of their continued educational journey," Swinarski said.
