Intelligence group to break ground for new facility Published Aug. 14, 2014 By Staff Reports Air Force ISR Agency Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO - LACKLAND, Texas -- The 548th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Group, Beale Air Force Base, Calif., will break ground later this year to begin construction of a newly consolidated Air Force Distributed Common Ground System (AF DCGS) Operations Center. The construction project will consist of an 85,000 square foot, two-story facility that will co-locate mission crews of up to 400 Air Force operators and support personnel as well as the AF DCGS mission systems. The AF DCGS, also called the AN/GSQ-272 SENTINEL weapon system, is the Air Force's primary intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance collection, processing, exploitation, analysis and dissemination system. The weapon system employs a global communications architecture to connect to multiple intelligence platforms and sensors. Air Force DCGS currently produces intelligence information from data collected by a variety of sensors on the U-2, RQ-4 Global Hawk, MQ-1 Predator, MQ-9 Reaper, MC-12 and other ISR platforms. The enlarged facility is needed to meet technology changes and increased mission requirements. Continual upgrades to the weapon system drive the need for new capacity to accommodate space, power and cooling requirements. The 548th ISR Group is assigned to the 480th ISR Wing, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va., and ultimately the Air Force ISR Agency, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.
