Volunteer opportunities for Airmen at Beale are abundant. In 2012, Beale Airmen participated in more than 200 community outreach events involving 4,962 Airmen in 32 communities. "Beale Airmen are a big part of the community, as most of our military and civilian personnel live off base," said Capt. Brian Wagner, 9th Reconnaissance Wing chief of public affairs. "This event is just one of many where Airmen are involved in the surrounding community." Greg Erwin, communications specialist for the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce, coordinated the event with Team Beale. "The Airmen were helpful, respectful and very professional," Erwin said. Erwin said volunteers saved the Downtown Business Association approximately $1,000 in moving costs, and they did the job quickly and efficiently. "Beale's surrounding community does a lot for us. The opportunity to volunteer and help out in return is a privilege," said Staff Sgt. Jason Arnold, 9th MUNS assistant NCO in charge of equipment maintenance. The Yuba City Downtown Business Association is a non-profit mutual benefit corporation governed by a board of directors. The board is responsible for the management, marketing, promotions, business development and beautification at downtown Plumas Street.
