53rd Test and Management Group Detachment 5

MISSION

The 53 Test and Management Group Detachment 5 is a selectively manned unit responsible for managing and executing HQ ACC-directed operational test and evaluations (OT&E) and tactics development and evaluations (TD&E) for  U-2 Dragon Lady and RQ-4 Global Hawk sensor, hardware, and software upgrades to maximize combat capabilities.  It provides operational, maintenance, and technical expertise to USAF, DoD, and industry in the development of U-2 and RQ-4 weapon system concepts, sustainment, and employment techniques.  Results and conclusions support DoD deployment and employment decisions.

ORGANIZATION

15 active duty and civilian members are assigned to the 53 TMG, Det 5. The unit consists of Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) pilots, U-2 pilots, maintainers, and support personnel. The unit falls under the 53d Test and Management Group, 53d Test Wing located at Eglin AFB.

 HISTORY

The 53d Test and Management Group, Detachment 5 was activated at Beale AFB on 26 May 2020. The unit still currently resides at Beale AFB as a detachment out of the 53d Test and Management Group at Nellis AFB.
