COLONEL PHILLIP A. STEWART Colonel Phil Stewart is the Commander, 9th Reconnaissance Wing, Beale Air Force Base, CA. He is responsible for approximately 7,000 military, civilian and contractor personnel. Col Stewart is also responsible for the Air Force's entire high-altitude reconnaissance fleet of RQ-4 Global Hawk and U-2 Dragonlady aircraft as well as the Air Force's tactical intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance fleet of MC-12 Aircraft. The 9th Reconnaissance Wing is comprised of five groups and five overseas operating locations which execute worldwide missions in support of all six geographic combatant commanders with an annual flying allocation of more than 22,000 hours. Colonel Stewart was commissioned in 1992 through ROTC after graduating from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He has earned master's degrees in Military Studies and Operational Planning, both from the Marine Corps University, as well as a master's in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. Additionally, Colonel Stewart attended the School of Advanced Warfighting (SAW) at the Marine Corps University in Quantico VA. He has served as an instructor and evaluator pilot, flight commander, and operations officer as well as commander of the USAF's first MC-12 squadron. His staff duties include tours at 19th Air Force as the commander's Aide-de-Camp, Chief of the Fighter-Bomber Assignments Branch, and Executive Officer to the Commander, Headquarters Air Combat Command. Prior to his current assignment, Colonel Stewart was the Vice Commander of the 9th Reconnaissance Wing. Colonel Stewart is a command pilot with more than 2,500 hours in the F-15C, AT-38, T-38, T-37, RQ-4, U-2 and MC-12. He has over 500 hours of combat time and has flown 107 combat missions.
