COLONEL QUINN A GUMMEL

Colonel Quinn Gummel is the Vice Commander, 9th Reconnaissance Wing, Beale Air Force Base, California. The 9th Reconnaissance Wing is responsible for both the Air Force's entire high-altitude reconnaissance fleet of RQ-4 Global Hawk and U-2 Dragonlady aircraft as well as the Air Force's tactical intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance fleet of MC-12 aircraft. As Vice Commander, Colonel Gummel oversees qualification and continuation training, and monitors the planning and execution of JCS tasked reconnaissance missions around the globe. The 9th Reconnaissance Wing is comprised of five groups and five overseas operating locations which execute worldwide missions in support of all six geographic combatant commanders with an annual flying allocation of more than 22,000 hours.

Col Gummel entered active duty as a graduate of the Air Force Academy in 1990. He served as a Logistics Plans Officer and EC-130E pilot before being selected for the U-2 program. He has served as instructor and evaluator pilot, flight commander, Chief of Safety and commanded a U-2 squadron. Prior to his current assignment, he was Deputy Director for Collections Programs, Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence, Pentagon, Washington D.C. He is a command pilot with more than 3,400 flying hours, including over 700 combat hours flown in support of Operations DELIBERATE FORCE, ALLIED FORCE, IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM.
