Renovations on the new multipurpose field began March 12, 2018, on base.

The project will feature numerous improvements, which causes the track to be closed until the scheduled completion date of June 2018.

“We are tearing up the existing grass area and replacing it with turf,” said Alicia Nowaczyk, 9th Civil Engineer Squadron, senior project manager. “We are also putting in a new irrigation and drainage system and stadium lighting around it.”

According to Nowaczyk, the renovations on the turf are designed to reduce potential injuries while the new sprinkler system is intended to keep the field cool in the summer.

The 9th CES worked closely with the 9th Contracting Squadron to find the right contractor for the job for a reasonable price.

“CE gives us their statement of need and estimated cost and we advertise it to the contractors,” said Mary Rojas, 9th CONS contracting specialist, “The cost of the project ended up coming in at approximately $2.5 million.”

Wing leaders believe it is important for Beale to continue trying to improve quality of life projects such as this one.

“I think a project like this one will do nothing but increase morale especially for the people on base,” said Nowaczyk. ““I think the community will be excited and I think there will be much more use of the field.”
