One of the "golden treasures" found at Beale is the 9th Force Support Squadron.

The 9th FSS prides itself in providing quality, fun and value to their events and programs for its Team Beale members.

It is one of the most widely diverse organizations at Beale providing over 30 different activities to our military, family and civilian population.

The squadron manages food services, lodging, personnel and manpower, recreational support, family services, youth programs, professional development and education and is an integral part of the Intelligence, Reconnaissance and Surveillance mission.

Because Beale is situated at the base of the foothills of the Gold Country it makes sense to embrace the history of the region. In doing so, the 9th FSS is creating an identity that reflects the value it brings to the base. Metaphorically they would like to think of their programs and activities as "Golden Treasures."

They have indeed filled their treasure chest with numerous awards and accolades over the past few years.

One of their most noteworthy treasures was winning the 2010 Eubank Award rating it the best Force Support Squadron in the Air Force.

The FSS activities have shined, as well. Beale's Aero Club was named the Air Force Program of the Year three years in a row. The Art & Crafts and Outdoor Recreation Activities received Program of the Year awards.. Last year the Contrails Dining facility was the 2012 ACC Hennessy Award Winner for the installation with the best food service program in the Air Force.

The first change you will see is the re-naming of the Stratosphere to the Eureka Dispatch. Careful consideration was made is coming up with a name that reflected the basis of what the magazine offers.

Eureka meaning, "I have found it!" is used to celebrate a sudden triumphant discovery and the word Dispatch refers to an official message sent by a diplomat or military officer.
The Stratosphere was first published in February 2006. The FSS Marketing office produced 84 issues to this date informing the base populace of the events and programs developed by the 9th FSS.

Look for other new changes to the format of the Eureka Dispatch in the coming months.
Adding another moniker to the Gold Country theme is our new mascot. He's an old, crusty prospector named, "Monty the Miner." No one really knows where he hails from but some have said he has traveled far and wide seeking the "treasures" only to be found at the 9th Force Support Squadron. So, look for him at various FSS and other base functions in the coming months.

Sadly, we will be retiring our past mascot Pinon the dragon who has served us for over 12 years. She now proudly passes the torch to Monty to continue to represent the FSS.
The 9th FSS leadership is committed to providing quality programs and activities now, and in the future.
