Mission.
Launches, recovers, and maintains USAF U-2 and RQ-4 high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft fleet in support of operational and training sorties. Manages fleet health to meet peacetime requirements and ensure aircraft availability for all peacetime and wartime taskings. Deploys aircraft, personnel, and equipment in support of contingency operations and other presidential and SECDEF taskings throughout the world.

Organization.
Over 600 active duty, reserve, guard, and civilian members are assigned to the 9th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. The unit consists of three flights and 2 Aircraft Maintenance Units: CSS/Program Flight, Cyber Mission Flight, 99 AMU and 12 AMU.

Lineage.
Constituted as 9th Periodic Maintenance Squadron on 4 Jun 1952. Activated on 16 Jun 1952. Redesignated as 9th Organizational Maintenance Squadron on 1 Oct 1958. Inactivated on 30 Apr 1992. Redesignated as 9th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron on 20 Aug 2002. Activated on 18 Sep 2002.

9th Bombardment (later 9th Strategic Aerospace; 9th Strategic Reconnaissance) Wing, 16 Jun 1952; 9th Logistics Group, 1 Sep 1991-30 Apr 1992. 9th Maintenance Group, 18 Sep 2002-present.
